Footfall
Footsteps, or the setting down of feet upon the ground.
The pattern of footfall constitutes the gait.

Central Line
An imaginary line along the direction of travel.

Track
Impression or indentation made on the substrate (ground) by a foot.
Direct Register
To land hind feet directly on the track made by forefeet.
The trail produced is such that the track of the forefoot is overprinted, to a greater or lesser degree, by the track of the hind foot.

Parallel Tracking
The tendency for feet to land apart, so that footfalls are on either side of the central line.

Single Tracking
The tendency to angle the legs inwards under the body so that their footfalls are on or close to the central line.
This may create a trail in which tracks form a single line.
Also known as convergence.
